Nativity scene — the heart of Czech Christmas
The nativity scene is the oldest and most traditional Christmas decoration in Czech culture. Folk nativity scenes from different parts of Bohemia and Moravia belong to the most beautiful folklore heritage. A wooden nativity scene in a modern family is a bridge between ancestral tradition and today's Christmas — a piece of history the whole family returns to each year.
Our range includes nativity scenes in various sizes and forms: small tabletop scenes (15-20 cm, 5-7 figures) for a shelf, mid-size (25-35 cm, 8-12 figures) for a chest of drawers or window, large family scenes (40+ cm, 15+ figures) as a dominant Christmas decoration. Classic traditional execution and modern stylisation.
What wood we use
For nativity scenes we use solid linden wood (traditional carving wood, fine grain, ideal for detail), solid beech (stronger parts — stable, base) and beech plywood (laser-cut figurines). Surface sanded and finished with natural oil or wax — natural wood colour or subtly painted.
A nativity scene as family heirloom
A wooden nativity scene lasts decades, even centuries. In many Czech families a nativity scene is inherited from grandparents, great-grandparents — each with its own story. When you buy a wooden nativity scene today, you're buying the first piece of a family Christmas tradition that will delight your grandchildren too.
Tip: A classic family nativity scene with 8-12 figures in a wooden box with a personalised plaque (family name, year of acquisition) — a beautiful Christmas gift for newlyweds or a new family.
